Relaxing Ways to Indulge in Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a wonderful way to unwind and relax when feeling the effects of stress. Did you also know you can use certain essential oils to uplift you? There are so many wonderful oils with amazing scents that can change your mood for the better. Scents ranging from calming lavender and relaxing rose to spicy scents like cinnamon and warming clove and vanilla. You can use oils individually or blend them for really unique scents. You don’t have to be an aromatherapist or even a scientist to make your own blends. Think of foods you love and even flowers you enjoy smelling. I love cinnamon buns baking and also the scent of vanilla. Mix the two and you have a delicious, warmth around your house. There are many ways to use essential oils, but you may not be familiar with them. If you don’t know where to buy them, you can go to a health food store and most likely you can find a nice selection there. here is a place to buy some of the best essential oils The prices vary per oil. Some are cost effective and
some are a splurge, but that’s because some oils take a lot more flower petals or part of the plant to produce the oil. Frankincense and Rose oil are two expensive oils. If you buy pricey oils, you should use some sparingly to make them last.
Note: It’s always best to store aromatherapy in glass bottles and keep away from the sun.
If you make a blend and put in a plastic bottle keep it in a cool place.
Here is a list of ways to use aromatherapy if you need some tips.
Spray Bottle: This is probably the easiest way to use it and a great way to make your oils last longer. Get a spray bottle and fill it up halfway with cold water. You are going to use 4 or more drops per 1 cup water. I like to use a little more though, sometimes about 20 drops per bottle. Then shake bottle up and add more water until it’s almost full. Spray around the house or bedroom for a nice scent.
Inhalation Method: Apply a drop or two on a tissue or handkerchief and smell as needed. This is a great way to get a quick burst of energy or to relax.
Massage Oil: You want to use a glass or plastic bottle and put a carrier oil in there about halfway. A carrier oil means you are diluting the oil into a base of something such as Apricot Kernel oil, Jojoba or Almond oil. You can also use less expensive brands such as sunflower oil. Add 5 drops to each teaspoon of carrier oil. Shake the bottle a bit after you added some drops and then add more carrier oil until it’s almost full. Let the blend mix together nicely.
Baths: Fill up your bathtub and when it’s full pour some essential oils in the bath. You can add 8 drops to your bath. This is a wonderful way to unwind, relax and enjoy the scent of aromatherapy. For really great results light an aromatherapy candle. You can also enjoy a simple foot bath with some essential oils. You can add up to about 6 drops of oil.
Shower: Shower as usual but add the essential oil to your washcloth or sponge and wash yourself while breathing in the aromatic steam deeply.
Diffuser: There are so many wonderful diffusers that are cost effective. Many are heated by a candle flame and others by electricity. Most are made of clay, glass or metal so it can heat the oils. Usually you just pour a little water on the top of diffuser and add a couple drops of essential oil to it. Light the candle and let it heat up. You can enjoy the wonderful aromatic benefits. Some have a water chamber and you can read on how to use those as they are a bit different. The electric ones you can read up also on how to use those. Those two methods are a bit different than the candle method.
Light Bulbs: This is a very unique and fun thing to try, but be careful as light bulbs get . really hot. You can buy a light bulb ring which goes around your light bulb. You can add the oil to the light bulb ring and let the heat generated scent the room. Don’t put the oil onto the light bulb itself. Use a couple drops and no more and enjoy the scent.
Wood Fires: Use a nice Cypress, pine, sandalwood or cedarwood scent and put 1 drop on each log and leave for half hour before using . One log fire can be sufficient. Use only 1 drop per log.
Water Bowl: Put boiling water into a bowl and add the essential oil. Close the windows and breathe in the vapors for five minutes for the scent to unfold. You can use this if you have a cold and use eucalyptus and peppermint. You can also try lavender and orange if you want to feel uplifted. It’s a great way to also get a steam facial while getting the emotional benefits of aromatherapy.
Perfume: You can add some carrier oil such as jojoba oil to a glass bottle, and some essentials oils to the mix. The amount varies. Maybe try 20 drops and shake it up and let it blend for a while before wearing.
If you want to really mix things up, you can add a few drops to your favorite shampoo such as tea tree, eucalyptus or peppermint for a tingly wash. You can even take a bit of carrier oil such as jojoba oil and vitamin E, with lemon and lavender oils and mix into your cuticles and hands. There are so many fun ways to use oils, but these are the basics. Explore different scents, play around with blending scents that you enjoy and have fun with aromatherapy and the many wonderful essential oils.
